In 1567 Giovanni Grimani gifted his collection of 200 classical statues to the City of Venice.
This bequest became the core collection of the Museo Archeologico di Venezia located at the Piazza San Marco.
In 2019, 70 of the statues were moved back to their original home in the Palazzo Grimani on Ruga Giuffa.
